Movie Review for Avengers: Age of Ultron
Soooooo....The new Avengers movie is out and everyone is all mad because it is not as good as the first one right? Well, it's not. It has been officially proven that Avengers is not immune to the sequel slump that nearly EVERY other movie franchise on earth is prone to. I'm not mad at it. The first movie was near perfection. How do you top it? It's very hard to go anywhere but down. That being said, I don't think Age of Ultron went that far down.
Now, I'm a DC girl myself (the comics, not the movies. Let's get that straight right now.) but I still enjoy all of the marvel movies and I would have given the first Avengers a 9 or 9.5 rating. This one stands strong at a 7.5 for me. I don't think a 7.5 is a bad movie. It had some parts that made me laugh and a handful of cool action scenes but I wasn't on the edge of my seat for any of it. It was underwhelming but I don't regret going at all.
Here are my areas of note for Avengers: Age of Ultron:
1.) They finally acknowledged how unnecessary Hawkeye is. Yes, they finally said what we were all thinking....
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not a Haweye hater and as someone who enjoys a good archery session from time to time, I love to see the cool trick shots. But next to Hulk, Ironman, Thor, and Cap, it looks a little bit like "take your kid with his weird medieval hobby to work day." I feel like he would shine more in his own movie.
2.) The weird OUT OF THE BLUE romance between the Hulk and Black Widow. I mean what??? Not only did I think they led us to believe that she had a thing with Hawkeye in the last movie (only to find out he has a secret house, wife, and baby hawkeyes in this movie) but even if she was single, how did things just suddenly jump from this....
To this...
My head is spinning with this one. Not that I am opposed to it. They were cute but just so out of the blue that it felt forced. I like a little build up with a good romance.
3.) Scarlet Witch (AKA: The Olsen Twins' way less famous sister) is pretty damn OP. They were trying really REALLY hard to make sure you were impressed by her. But for me, even her red sparkles lost their sparkle after a few scenes.
4.) They attempted to do Quick Silver....
But all it did was remind me of how good the X-men Quick Silver was.
Much better. :) Avengers guy felt like a cheap replacement.
5.) They kind gloss over the random buff purpleish/redish guy with the voice of Jarvis and a glowy yellow stone in his forehead just showing up and picking up Thor's hammer before walking out to go fight with them. No questions asked or explanation given for this guy, he just joins the team. Kind of lost me for a sec.
Overall this movie was good but not great. Still worth a watch if you like Marvel at all and it definitely doesn't deserve all the hate it's getting.
